After losing my father to Cancer, just four months before my wedding day, I was devastated and as the wedding details unfolded, I found ways to honor him.
Through a series of events, I discovered Origami Owl meaningful jewelry. As I am approaching my SEVENTH year as a designer with Origami Owl, I reflect back on my first introduction to the product.
Have you ever been invited to an online Facebook party and been inundated with notifications and thought, “what the….”?!?! Carolyn, a college friend, had invited me to her online Facebook party and each post was showing up in my newsfeed. Remember, five years ago, Facebook events would show everything in the newsfeed?
What Carolyn didn’t know, I had lost my father after a battle with brain cancer four months before my wedding, and basically froze in the wedding planning. I was three weeks from the October wedding date and had not found gifts for my wedding party; the five women that I had met throughout my life, influenced me in various ways, and held me up when all I wanted to do was fall down in grief. What gift could I possibly give with meaning, a message of appreciation, and the love I felt?
Bridal gifts, memorial gifts, locket stories… as the Facebook party began, my news feed was filled with beautiful images and explained the ability to design a meaningful gift. This would be a perfect addition to my bridal party gifts! I went to the Origami Owl website and saw how I could create a personalized necklace for each bridesmaid and was surprised by the quick turnaround; I would receive these within 10 days.

Creating My Memorial Locket
After creating a design for each bridesmaid, I made a locket with charms that represented my treasured memories with my father and wore the special locket in an organza bag as my “something blue”, under my wedding gown. Maybe this sounds strange, but I felt his presence with me that day. What impressed me about this product, it’s more than Swarovski jewelry, it’s about the stories captured in a beautiful locket.
